Haryana girls take away trophy at national kabaddi tournament

The girl’s kabaddi team from Haryana emerged victorious by trouncing the Uttar Pradesh team in the finals of the U-14 girls national 64th kabaddi tournament here on Sunday.

Haryana defeated U.P. by 48-19 points. From the beginning, the Haryana girls outclassed Uttar Pradesh. In the first half, they had scored 22 points while U.P. was at 12. However, in the second half, the Haryana team went all-out and improved their tally by scoring another 26 points while U.P. scored just 7. This match which was scheduled to be held on Saturday evening had to be postponed to Sunday morning due to cold weather and mist at the DAR grounds.

Earlier, Haryana had trounced the Delhi girls’ team with 15-13 to enter the finals. For the third place, Chattisgarh locked horns with Delhi. However, the Delhi girls held their nerve to bag the match point. When both teams were fixed at 26 points each, the Delhi girls gave it their all to emerge winners by defeating Chattisgarh 27-26.

Simran Tiwari of the Uttar Pradesh team was adjudged as ‘Best Rider’, while Delhi’s Manisha was adjudged ‘ Best Catcher’ and Haryana’s Jyoti bagged the ‘Best All-rounder’ trophy. The Karnataka team emerged ‘Best team’ of the tournament.
