Karwar: Raghu Naik, president of Kannada Vatal Paksha in Uttara Kannada district, on Monday lodged a police complaint against Karwar MLA Roopali Naik for allegedly abusing protesters demanding enhanced compensation to the families of victims in the boat tragedy.

Raghu told reporters that last week, he and his supporters held a protest in front of the mortuary of Karwar Medical College, where the bodies of victims were kept. “When the protest was on, Roopali Naik chased the protesters away and abused them,” he alleged.

The MLA threatened to lodge a case against the protesters at Karwar Town police station, he said.

Raghu said that a video of the incident which went viral has been submitted to police for investigation.

He said that the legal battle against Roopali will continue till she tendered an apology. Raghu said that reports of Anand Asnotikar provoking people against the MLA are false.
