CHENNAI: People applying for passports will now have more options to get their documents verified and pay fees as 12 post office Passport Seva Kendra units including one at GPO in Chennai, head post offices at Kancheepuram, Arani and Ranipet, were inaugurated on Sunday. They were part of the facilities Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated from Madurai.

The GPO centre will cater to residents of North Chennai. The units were set up after regional passport office (RPO) sought the services of the postal department to identify post offices for setting up the kendra. These units will function like the Passport Seva Kendra of RPO .
