Chevrolet ‘Real People’ Reliability Fiasco Births ‘Real Life’ Parody

To say Chevrolet’s recent ‘Real People’ reliability commercial was a fail would be the understatement of the year.

In early January, Chevrolet started airing its ‘Chevrolet Surprises Competitive Owners When It Comes To Reliability’ commercial across the United States. The commercial claimed that Chevrolet’s vehicles are more reliable than those from Honda, Toyota, and Ford.

While the commercial may have convinced some, it didn’t take long for the internet to discover just how inaccurate the claims were. Now it’s the time for the internet to poke fun at the car manufacturer.

YouTuber Zebra Corner has just dropped a hilarious parody showing what Chevrolet’s ‘Real People’ commercials would be like if they were factually accurate. We won’t ruin it for you, but it’s worth watching in its entirety.

We all saw this parody coming…

The most controversial thing about Chevrolet’s reliability claims is that it sponsored the survey used to make the determinations. Ipsos sent out 840,979 surveys to owners of 2015 Model Year vehicles. Just over 48,000 of these surveys were completed and returned and included owners from brand such as Acura, BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Subaru, Volkswagen, and others.

The survey defined reliability by the percentage of owners who reported a lack of necessary repairs for the vehicle in the previous 12 months.

Shortly after learning about Chevrolet sponsoring this survey, both Honda and Toyota challenged Chevrolet, forcing the carmaker to drop the ad.
