The all new cardiac catheterization lab (cath lab) that facilitates diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases with minimally invasive tests and procedures at the Pathanamthitta General Hospital would be of great help to the common people, Health Minister K.K.Shylaja has said.
The Minister was inaugurating the newly set up cardiac cath lab at the General Hospital here on Monday. Ms. Shylaja said the cath lab facility was a dire necessity at the Pathanamthitta General Hospital that has been identified as the base hospital of Sabarimala.
The government has provided the cath lab facility at the General Hospital under the Aardram project after availing financial support from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).

The government’s mission was to make the State-run healthcare centres more popular, she said.Ms Shylaja said ordinary patients would be more benefited with the cardiac cath lab at the Pathanamthitta General Hospital.
The government has sanctioned KIIFB-funded catheterization lab for 10 hospitals in the State and the one in Pathanamthitta was the first among them to be commissioned.
And, with the commissioning of the ₹8-crore modern cardiac cath lab, the General Hospital has been elevated to the stature of a super speciality hospital, Ms Shylaja said at the function. The Minister also inaugurated the Brainstem Evoked Response Audiometry (BERA) system at the hospital on the occasion.
