THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Differently abled persons' welfare federation (DAWF) has alleged that statutory reservation for physically handicapped in state government service has been sabotaged by the government and the Kerala public service commission (PSC) by manipulating recruitment criteria.

"The state government should implement 4% reservation in job quota for persons with disabilities," said DAWF state president Parasuvaikkal Mohanan.

"While the Union government increased 4% reservation for persons with disabilities as per the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Rules, 2017, PSC is turning blind eye to this," he added.

"The state is yet to implement the act which came into existence last year. As per the act, people with disabilities such as visual or hearing impairment would be eligible for jobs in public sector undertakings, local administration and educational institutions. However, PSC is neglecting this right by presenting baseless and unscientific arguments," said Mohanan.

According to state president of All Kerala Association of Deaf, A Shanmughan, Supreme Court itself had said that there should be reservation in disabled people's entry cadre appointments and promotions. "Though state government is ready to implement the SC verdict, officials are not willing to execute these rules in the state. It itself is contempt of court," he said.
