Silas Moses, a social worker from Nairobi in Kenya, visited Ponnani last week to study the cultural heritage of the place. A brotherhood fund (BF) delegate of Y’s Men International, Mr. Moses spent three days at Ponnani, visiting historic sites, pilgrims sites, and educational and cultural centres.
He offered floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Tirunavaya. The places Mr. Moses covered included Narimalamkunnu, Kavuprakunnu, Old Juma Masjid, Thrikkavu Bhagavati Temple, St. Antony’s Church, Mar Thoma Church, and Valiya Jaram.
V.P. Husainkoya Thangal, former municipal chairman, welcomed Mr. Moses with a ponnada during his visit to Vettam Pokkiriyanakam. He closely examined the spinning wheel (charka) used by Kasturba Gandhi at Ponnani Heritage Home. He visited Government LP School at Theyyangad and evaluated the murals there, besides inaugurating the harvesting of an organic farming project undertaken by the students.
Municipal Chairman C.P. Mohammed Kunhi presided over the function.
