Schoolteacher gets crushed to death under girder

Surat: A schoolteacher got crushed to death after a girder fell on him when he was going under it on his motorcycle at Amroli charrasta ahead of Tapoi bridge here on Monday. A tanker driver misjudged the height of the girder and hit it resulting in its fall on an unsuspecting Sabbir Ali Mahammad Ali Saiyed, who happened to be passing by from there at that moment. The tanker driver fled leaving his vehicle at the spot. He has been booked for causing death by negligence and under various sections of Motor Vehicles Act at Amroli police station.
Saiyed sustained serious head injuries and was declared dead by doctors at SMIMER hospital. A police officer said, “We have started investigation in the case and will nab the tanker driver soon. The exact age of the schoolteacher is not yet known.” Amroli bridge is likely to be inaugurated in a few days.
