Mangaluru: Yakshagana Bhagavatha Agari Raghurama passed away after a brief illness at his residence at Surathkal on Sunday. He was 84. He is survived by four children.
A veteran Bhagavatha of Thenku Thittu tradition, he is considered as the link between the old and new generation. Born on February 7, 1935 to Agari Srinivas and Rukmini, he had his intermediate education at Vidyadayini Institution at Surathkal and at St Aloyius College. Since his father was also doing Bhagavathike (art of renditioning Yakshagana songs), Raghurama was also drawn to it. Accepting his father as his guru, he learnt all aspects of Bhagavathike from him.
He was a government employee and became a full-time professional Bhagavathike in 1965-66.
