A 32-year-old man has been arrested, for allegedly killing his 28-year-old live-in-partner in northeast Delhi's Usmanpur, while trying to bury her body in Bijnor area of Uttar Pradesh, police said on Saturday.
According to the police that accused has been identified as Mohammad Intezaar (32), a native of Bijnor, who is married but had been living away from his wife and a 3-year-old daughter.
Police said that the accused reveled that his live-in-partner Soni (28) who was also married to another man, had been pressurising Intezaar to marry him, following which they often had heated arguments.
Meanwhile Intezaar's wife, who lived in the same area, and Soni also often used to have fights over who would live with Intezaar in his house.
"Recently in one such argument between the two women, when Intezaar supported his wife, he and Soni had a violent scuffle. Later in the night another argument between Intezaar and Soni turned ugly after which Intezaar strangled Soni to death with a dupatta. He then wrapped her body in a cloth and planned to dispose it off by dumping it into a drain," said a senior police officer.
Sighting heavy deployment he could not execute the plan and later then hired a car, which the police are yet to recover, and drove more than 160 km to his native village in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh.
Police said that it took him about seven hours to drive to his native village Khatriyan in Bijnor.
During the early hours of Wednesday, he took the body to a secluded field and started digging the woman's grave.
"Passerby spotted Intezaar doing the act and raised alarm. Local police was called and the body was taken into police custody. The local police questioned Intezaar and informed Delhi Police. We sent a team of our officer to Bijnor on Thursday and the accused brought to Delhi on Saturday," said Deputy commissioner of police (northeast) Atul Thakur.
The DCP said they questioned Intezaar and he confessed to have killed Soni. Police are, however, yet to recover the car he had used to ferry Soni's body.
Police said, Soni's husband Sanjay, who lives in Brahmapuri was informed about her death. Police also found that in July last year Soni had fled from Sanjay's house after which he had also filed a missing complaint about her. However, she had started living with Intezaar and never returned to her in-law's house, police said.
