Navelim gram sabha turns down petrol pump proposal

NAVELIM: Navelim gram sabha, on Sunday, turned down a proposal for setting up a petrol pump as the petroleum company failed to provide details of the location for the same.

The villagers turned down the proposal as the nearest petrol pump is just 3 km away.

Sarpanch Vilma D’Silva said that the panchayat had written to Bharat Petroleum seeking details of the site but it failed to respond.

The villagers discussed a proposal by the Fabrica for the extension of the higher secondary school after the Town and Country Planning Department rejected proposal as the land is identified as playground on the Regional Plan.

The villagers then discussed the traffic issue and  passed a resolution to  declare the stretch around the schools as ‘no parking zone,’ as it sought installation of rumblers along the widened road stretch starting from Navelim

church.

The villagers also discussed the proposal to identify four locations for setting up ground-based masts in the village under the Digital India Scheme.

The panchayat had earlier proposed to install towers on wheels.

The gram sabha also resolved to seek a joint inspection with the PWD Minister and other officials, of the Western Bypass alignment, as the PWD has failed to submit the particular plan to the panchayat.

The villagers expressed concern over the damage to fields and water bodies in the future as “the panchayat has been kept in the dark over the bypass plans.”
