Fire leads to blasts in aluminium company
TNN | Jan 28, 2019, 04:00 ISTVadodara: Residents of Vadsar Road had a frightful Sunday evening as they woke up from their afternoon siesta hearing blast sounds.
A fire that broke out in a heap of garbage in the premises of an aluminium company in Makarpura Industrial Estate heated around 10 industrial cylinders filled with LPG resulting in blasts.
According to fire department officials, garbage heap in the premises of the company caught fire due to unknown reasons around 5.30pm. The flames quickly engulfed the grass near the cylinders. “As the cylinders started heating, around 10 of them began to explode one after the other,” said a fire official.
The blast sounds were loud enough to be heard up to quite a distance in Makarpura area. Fire officials said there were 30 cylinders, but the fire was brought under control within 45 minutes and other cylinders were removed to safety.
The exact reason for the fire could not be confirmed, but fire department sources said somebody must have thrown a cigarette butt or some other item on the garbage heap.
