As many as 225 participants attended the State-level event

A one-day State-level seminar on ‘Recent changes in GST and its implications’ for students, faculties and businessmen was organised by the School of Business, Don Bosco College, Yelagiri Hills, recently.

J. Baskar, Ind-Tax Consultants, Hosur, addressed the gathering and highlighted that there would be a massive relief to small businesses as the GST Council doubled the limit for exemption from payment of goods and services tax (GST) to ₹40 lakh.

Career opportunities

Mr. Baskar announced that the higher turnover cap of ₹1.5 crore for availing composition scheme of paying 1% tax will be effective from April 1 and also pointed out career opportunities for youngsters in the field of GST, especially students with a commerce background.

As many as 225 participants from Thiruvalluvar University, other State universities and industry delegates participated in the seminar.

Economic Stimulant

D. Vetrivelan, Head of Department of Management Studies, welcomed the gathering.

Rev. S. Thaddeus, Principal of Don Bosco College, addressed the gathering that the Goods and Services Tax is another such undertaking that is expected to provide the much needed stimulant for economic growth in India. GST is also expected to eliminate the cascading effect of taxes, he added.

V. Rajendiran, Deputy principal, and Head of Department of Commerce, Tirupathy, distributed the certificates to participants.
