‘Rid India of all social evils’
TNN | Jan 27, 2019, 05:42 ISTMandya: District minister C S Puttaraju called upon people to build a vibrant and healthy nation, which should be free from divisive thoughts.
Addressing a gathering after hoisting the national flag during the Republic Day celebrations at Sir M Visvesvaraya stadium here on Saturday, Puttaraju said all Indians must root out social evils like poverty, illiteracy and unemployment. “After independence, we have achieved self-reliance in almost all fields, especially technology, aerospace, communication technology, health and education,” he said, adding to develop India further, “we need to root out social evils”.
The minister said that to strengthen Krishnarajasagar (KRS) reservoir, a plan worth Rs 60 crore is being implemented as a World Bank project. The first phase of the works has been executed at a cost of Rs 31 crore. “The state government has been helping farmers by implementing various agriculture projects and schemes,” Puttaraju claimed.
The march past by teams of reserve police, District Armed Force, Home Guards and schoolchildren stole the show. The stadium came alive when hundreds of students from educational institutions put up a show of song and dance.
