Dharmasthala: As a precursor to the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijayotsav, D Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, poured Nethravati water into the Shradha Suman Shradanjali Kalash, here on Sunday. Heggade also showered flower petals on the kalash and paid his tributes to the martyrs who laid down their lives to beat back enemy forces from across the border, who had infiltrated deep into Indian territory.
The kalash that arrived at this pilgrimage centre from Bengaluru as part of an all-India tour was accorded a grand reception. Heggade poured water into the kalash in front of Sri Manjunatha Temple. Heggade called children who were in the vicinity to pour river water into the kalash and also inculcate pride about the Indian armed forces and thereby their nation. Senior amy officers led by commanding officer S C Bhandary were present.
The kalash that departed from Bengaluru on January 25 and later left for Sri Kshetra Subrahmanya will traverse through 20 states and 200 towns and cities and reach the Kargil memorial in Delhi on July 27, that will mark the 20th anniversary of the Indian Army’s win over the intruders. India lost 527 soldiers in the nearly three-month-long low intensity war that also left 1,363 soldiers wounded and one soldier captured as a prisoner of war.
