While teachers continued with their protest despite stern warning from the State government, parents have started demanding immediate action from the authorities to restore normalcy, so that the students do not suffer due to the stir.

As the number of teachers participating in the strike is very high, majority of government schools are functioning without teaching staff. Thus, high school students having their revision test this month are facing uncertainty.
“We are in the process of giving representation to the CM for taking steps to end this strike. We will also urge the government to bring new amendments to the staff service rule, so that such protests can be prevented in future,” said S Vasudevan, a member of parent’s teacher’s association of Pallavaram region.
He also claimed that several government schools were running without a single teacher. Pointing out that practical exams for Classes 11 and 12 will be held on February 1, he said students will be severely affected if teachers do not turn up for duty immediately. Appointing temporary teachers was not a solution since students were already tuned well to their respective teachers, he said.
Tamil Nadu Teachers Association (TTA), which has over 75,000 government teachers as members, also said that the strike of JACTTO-GEO was politically motivated. “The strike should not affect the students. They are innocent,” TTA secretary P K Illamaran said.
Several parents’ teachers’ associations have come together and will approach CM Edappadi K Palaniswami, and urge him to take immediate measures to ensure smooth functioning of schools in the State. The indefinite strike by the Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers Organisations – Government Employees Organisations (JACTTO-GEO) had adversely impacted the running of government schools.

Temporary staff to join duty tomorrow
Vellore Chief Educational Officer S Mars on Saturday said temporary teachers will be able to join duty from Monday and that their applications will be processed on the same day as well. After attending a meeting at the Collectorate here, he said that all schools in the district have been empowered to receive application from candidates for such posts from Sunday.
