2 arrested for trying to sell idol

Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City police have arrested two people who were trying to sell a bronze idol and seized a panchaloha and a car valued at Rs 2.69 lakh from the accused.

According to police, the arrested are Subramanya Bhat, 45, a resident of Sullia and Nisar, 54, a resident of Kollam district in Kerala.


Police added that acting on a tip-off, that the duo were trying sell a bronze idol to a prospective buyer, they conducted a raided near the Football stadium near Nehru Maidan, recently, and arrested them along with the idol and car.


Nisar had purchase the idol from a shop in Mangaluru and was trying to sell it for a lot of money, by conning the buyer into believing that it was an antique idol. A case has been registered at the Mangaluru South police station.
