Tamil Nadu to stop imported coal, save Rs.400 crore

Tangedco is set to stop importing coal for all thermal units in the state. With the stoppage of import, the discom will save at least Rs.400 crore per annum. This follows after the Centre agreed to increase the coal allocated to Tangedco thermal units. As of now Tangedco is importing coal from Indonesia. The Centre has agreed to supply the extra coal from Jharkhand coal mines and it will be easy for the discom to evacuate the coal through rail. The Coal Ministry has initiated talks with the Railways to allocate extra rakes for Tamil Nadu. The Centre has also agreed to increase coal allocation to Tangedco for new thermal projects as well.
