AGRA: UP state minister Raghuraj Singh has threatened to get the vice chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) sacked if any action is taken against the students, who took out Tiranga Yatra in the campus.
Talking to media persons in Aligarh, Raghuraj Singh said that 26th January is a festival for all Indians and anyone can take out a Tiranga Yatra. He said, “This university is being run with public money, not from VC’s personal account or Pakistan’s donations”.
He said if Tiranga Yatra is not taken out in “Hindustan”, then will it be taken out in Pakistan or Bangladesh.
A row has erupted after the administration issued show cause notice to two students including grandson of BJP MLA, Dalveer Singh, Ajay Singh for organising a bike rally titled “Tiranga Yatra” in the campus on Tuesday.
In the show cause notice, the university’s proctor Mohsin Khan stated that the procession was held during teaching hours and students were misguided to leave their classes and be the part of gathering and bike rally, which was organised without permission. It was also mentioned that some outsiders and anti-social elements were also part of this gathering and rally, which had created fear among the bonafide students by destroying peaceful academic atmosphere of the university campus.
BJP's Member of Parliament (MP) from Aligarh, Satish Kumar Gautam, also shot off a letter on Friday to Human resource development (HRD) minister Prakash Javadekar, seeking his intervention into the matter. In his letter, Gautam, who is also AMU’s court member questioned if it was unconstitutional to organise a patriotic event in any part of the country? With what mindset, did the administration send notice to the students?
Meanwhile, former vice president of AMU Students’ Union, Mohd Nadeem Ansari has announced to burn a Saffron flag on Feb 20, if the university authorities do not taken any action against the students who took out the Tiranga Yatra in the campus.
Ansari alleged that the students who took out Tiranga Yatra actually wanted to repeat the “Kasganj like violence”.
