NEW DELHI: At a time when EVMs are again in the news following fresh hacking claims, PM Narendra Modi on Sunday praised the Election Commission for its “meticulous organising abilities” and adherence to “free and fair polling”.
“I appreciate the Election Commission for relentlessly striving to ensure the strengthening of our democracy. I hold in high esteem the ECs of all states, security personnel and other staff members who contribute in ensuring strict adherence to free and fair polling,” Modi said in his radio programme ‘Mann Ki Baat’.
Opposition parties recently sought to bring alleged hacking of EVMs into focus after a self-proclaimed cyber expert, Syed Shuja, claimed in London that the machines could be hacked and the 2014 Lok Sabha polls were rigged.
The EC, however, rubbished such claims.
Besides lauding the EC, the PM also spoke about the importance of casting votes adding how young people would exercise their ‘right to vote’ for the first time in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He urged eminent people to come forward and jointly contribute in “campaigning for spreading awareness on voter registration and casting one’s vote on the day of polling”. He also urged the youth to register themselves as voters if they were eligible.
