Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation schools to get names

AHMEDABAD: The year 2019 marks start of the centenary celebrations for Municipal School Board of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.


In a major decision taken by the board on Friday was that the schools would get names. “So far, the schools have been identified as School No. 12 or 25 and so on. But now, the schools will get names of the personalities ranging from former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam to astronaut Sunita Williams,” said a board member.


AMC-run schools have 1.21 lakh students. A total budget of Rs 673 crore was passed in the session where Rs 5 crore budget has been earmarked to celebrate the 100 years of municipal schools. Moreover, Rs 8 crore would be provided for sanitation, Rs 12 crore for training and development of teachers and Rs 50 lakh to model schools. A total of Rs 12 crore would be provided for primary classes. The number of English-medium schools would reach 30 with addition of six new schools this year.
