'I was trying to be a different race!' Skye Wheatley announces she's given up tanning in the sun... after wishing she was a 'naturally-tanned Aboriginal'

She was heavily criticised in 2017 after saying she wished she was a 'naturally tanned Aboriginal' so she'd have darker skin instead of having to use fake tan.

And on Friday, Skye Wheatley came narrowly close to making another insensitive remark while announcing her decision to give up tanning in the sun.

Explaining her choice in a lengthy admission shared to Instagram Stories, the new mother claimed: 'I was trying to be a different race.'

She went on to say, 'just scroll back down my feed and you'll see just how...' and the former Big Brother star hesitated before adding, 'tan I was'.

The 24 year-old continued: 'I was going to say something else, but then I'll be called a racist and I just can't deal with that drama.'

Carefully side-stepping controversy, Skye went on to reveal she made a 'conscious decision' to stop her relationship with the sun because it 'f**ked my skin.'

She goes onto admit: 'I was an albino girl trying to be someone else.'

The social media influencer has found herself repeatedly in hot water over risky remarks about race.

In a 2017 Youtube beauty tutorial, she claimed: 'I apologise. I'm not a naturally tanned Aboriginal. I wish I was. But unfortunately I'm not.'

After making the comments, Skye reassured viewers that she meant no disrespect.

However, last August, she landed herself in trouble again when she teased her boyfriend Lachlan Waugh about the paternity of their child in a YouTube Q&A video, asking him how he'd react if she gave birth to a 'chocolate baby'.

Following the controversial remark, Skye took to Instagram days later to clarify she is 'not racist' and loves all people regardless of their skin colour.

She wrote: 'I am not racist so everyone needs to relax [and] calm down. I love all people regardless [of] if you [are] white, Asian, tan, black, caramel, albino.'

Skye gave birth to her son, Forest, on Christmas Eve.
