PATIALA: To provide ultra-modern housing facilities to the residents of Patiala, Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh on Friday laid foundation stones of developmental projects worth Rs 29.03 crore.
The projects will be executed by Patiala Development Authority (PDA) under fourth phase of Urban Estate at Falauli village. The new Urban Estate, registered under Real Estate Regulatory Authority (Rera) to be developed over an area of 76 acre adjacent to the Punjabi University, would be linked through a 60-ft-wide road from Sadhu Bela road under the land pooling scheme from land owners.

As per the layout plan, 445 plots have been carved out, of which 348 are residential and 97 commercial. The PDA has already been allotted development works worth Rs 23.34 crore and the entire project would be completed by April 30, 2020.

Meanwhile, the CM inaugurated ‘Atal Tinkering Laboratory’ (ATL) and an e-library at a government school.

The objective of the ATL is to foster curiosity, creativity and imagination in young minds, besides developing skills like designing mindset, computational thinking, adaptive learning and physical computing.

Under this unique programme, the students would learn about Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, drone making, do it yourself projects, biotechnology and electronics. The CM announced that students from Classes X to XII will be given 900 electronic tablets by the government.

The CM also announced to set up an e-library at a government school. The new library will be facilitated with 30 tablets, 25 laptops, high-speed Wi-Fi and seamless access to e-books and e-content available both online and offline.

To curb stray dog menace in the city, Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh inaugurated a state-of-the-art animal birth control centre at a cost of Rs 25 lakh. The new centre has been opened keeping in mind the Animal Birth Control (Dogs) Rules, 2001 after the Supreme Court’s mandate.

With a sterilisation target of minimum 400 dogs per month, the programme will be monitored by Animal Welfare Board of India. The new centre has dog kennels, which can hold up to 85 dogs at one time. Each kennel has its own water supply and drainage systems in place.
