A book titled The Arithmetic of Desires was launched at Hyderabad Literary Festival here on Saturday. Authored by Hina Alam, an educational consultant by profession, the book attempts to send across key messages to people from the perspective of women, through generational shifts. Giving an insight into the book, Ms. Hina said, “One of the central messages is about the inherent courage that lies hidden in each one of us and how we can overcome our own social situations by depending on this courage.” The book also philosophises the unconditional love and kindness that ultimately prevails in life. The characters of the story are ordinary mortals and their reactions to various situations change as time and social forces change, she told The Hindu on the sideline of the event.
“There is nothing unethical and unsocial about it. The same goes for relationships too. The story seeks to convey that human relationships are never perfect. It is our mere belief in any relationship that makes it somewhat perfect,” she said.
Ms. Hina, who is also a blogger, said people have to be accepted with all their strengths, weaknesses and characteristics. There is no set formula for a perfect partner or a perfect life.
The author said the romantic fiction was also available on Amazon.in and several book stores in the country.
