NOIDA: Seeking to downplay the appointment of Priyanka Gandhi as the general secretary of Congress for eastern UP, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said the move would not make any difference to the region.
“Usse kuch nahin hoga”, he said, adding that the decision proved once again that for Congress, one party is the family and the party does not think beyond the family.

“Zero plus zero is zero. Congress is zero. Anyone can come with it, but zero will remain zero,” he remarked about Priyanka’s active entry into politics.

Yogi, who represented eastern UP’s Gorakhpur constituency in the Lok Sabha five times, however claimed that Priyanka had been actively working in the previous elections too.

“She was active in the general and assembly elections held in 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2017 too. Congress has the right to bring anyone it wants. However, with this, it has been proved that for Congress, one family is party and it can’t think beyond the family,” said Yogi.

The chief minister was speaking to reporters during his journey on metro from Sector 137 to the last depot station.

Even as the CM was speaking in the metro premises, a political battle to grab credit for the Rs 5,503 metro project started with the local Samajwadi Party unit putting up hoardings at different places in the district, thanking former chief minister and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav for “giving the metro corridor to the residents of Noida-Greater Noida.”

At some spots, the boards were put exactly opposite the ones put up by BJP workers welcoming Yogi to Greater Noida.

The SP hoardings were put up on behalf of Anil Yadav, former Yuvajan Sabha leader and ex-spokesperson for SP, at different locations including Advant Tower, Mahamaya flyover, near entry of Noida Extension ahead of Parthala, at Noida entry before Haridarshan chowki and in Sector 62.

Yadav told TOI: “This government is misleading the public by giving wrong figures and facts. The project was approved by the Akhilesh Yadav government and we could have opened it. We hence congratulated Akhileshji for the project but the same did not go down well with the local administration and they removed our hoardings.”

Yogi, on the other hand, termed the completion of the metro corridor on “record time” as an achievement. He said that the timely completion ensured that public money was not wasted like during the tenure of other governments which resorted to “revised estimates.” “Revised estimates are a betrayal with the public who have to suffer extra monetary burden,” he said.
