District Health Officer Rajesh Suragihalli said on Saturday that the district would receive one lakh units of vaccine against Kyasanur Forest Disease (KFD) in 15 days.
He was speaking at a meeting chaired by D.C. Thammanna, Minister for Transport, to review the measures taken to tackle monkey fever.
Mr. Suragihalli said that this season, as many as 71,989 persons have been vaccinated against the disease. The district needs 2.23 lakh units of vaccine and the indent for this has already been placed, he said.
Kiran S.K., serving as Field Medical Officer on KFD with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, said that the State government has been requested to sanction permission to appoint two senior health assistants and a laboratory technician on contract basis to work in areas affected by KFD. In addition to this, a proposal has been submitted to sanction permission to purchase 12 four-wheelers to ensure easy movement of staff, medicines and tick-repellent oils in the affected areas in Sagar, Thirthahalli, and Hosanagar taluks.
Mr. Thammanna said 119 persons from the district have received treatment at private hospitals for KFD and its symptoms. The State government will bear the complete medical expenses of these patients, he added.
