Old Airport road now open through the night

Now, the road will be closed for traffic only between 6am and 8am for morning walkersNAGPUR: With MahaMetro blocking traffic on Wardha road during night with increasing frequency, MIHAN India Ltd (MIL), operator of airport, has begun keeping the Old Airport road open for traffic also during night hours. Now, the road is closed for traffic only between 6am and 8am for morning walkers.
An MIL official told TOI plan is to keep the road open 24 hours in coming days. “MahaMetro officials came to us and informed about increase in traffic blocks on Wardha road. They assured to clean up weeds along the road for morning walkers. Th road will be open for 24 hours once special lane for morning walkers is ready,” he said.
MahaMetro is constructing the double decker flyover on Wardha road. To facilitate the work, it stops traffic here in night hours. Actually, Old Airport road connecting Khamla with Airport was opened citing Metro works on Wardha road six months ago. But it remained closed during night over security reasons.
TOI had twice highlighted about the road being closed when it is needed the most. Now, citizens especially international air passengers will get major relief. Two international flights land and depart from here during wee hours.
A morning walker had died and a couple of more sustained serious injuries when this road was opened. Therefore, it is kept closed for two hours for morning walkers.
