Police have made elaborate security arrangements to ensure smooth and peaceful conduct of Jind bye-election to be held on January 28. To avoid any kind of nuisance, the state police department has decided to deploy as many as 2,950 cops for the election duty. Besides security arrangements, a set of guidelines also has been issued to ensure the law and order in constituency and the state as well. “Couples of meeting have been held to ensure the smooth and peaceful conduct of election in Jind. Our priority is to maintain law and order in the state,” said DGP BS Sandhu.

Those found breaching the norms would be dealt with sternly, he added.About 25 per cent of polling booths are sensitive and hyper sensitive in the constituency which is a matter of worry for the Police Department. A total of 174 polling booths have been set up and out of which 23 identified as sensitive and 20 hyper-sensitive.About 1,800 additional cops and other staff have been sanctioned by the DGP office.

An official spokesperson said that stern action would be taken against those found involved in any unlawful activity or violence during the conduct of election. As demanded by Jind administration, three additional ASPs have been deployed. Besides, additional number of cops and staff consists of 1,282 non-gazetted officers, 220 female cops and 282 home guards.”The assembly has been divided in 6 zones for the purpose of patrolling and six DSPs will take care of these zones,” said SP of Jind, Ashwani. Apart from this, a total number of 24 patrolling teams will take care of security management, he added.Of the 7,513 total arms licences issued to the people in the entire constituency, 7,100 arms holders have surrendered their arms to the police.
The officials have recommended the cancellation of arms licences of remaining 397 persons. All the hotels in Jind city have been put under surveillance so that cops can keep an eye on every minor activity.The guidelines also contain that staff on duty has to be equipped with walkie-talkie and anti-bomb squad will be deployed across throughout constituency. Besides, fire brigade and health department have also been put on alert.
