Two men were arrested for murdering a 27-year-old woman after she resisted their attempts to rape her in Haryana’s Jhajjar, the police said on Friday.
The main accused, Vidhan, and the woman’s neighbour is on the run. The two arrested men have been identified as Naveen and Neeraj Nara, residents of Najafgarh.
DCP (Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said Neeraj and Naveen were nabbed from a police picket near Baba Haridas Nagar on Friday on the basis of secret information.
The police said, the victim, an engineer with a private firm in Gurugram, was on her way home on Thursday when Neeraj spotted her and offered her a lift on his bike. She agreed since she knew him.
Initial investigations revealed that Neeraj took a detour to Jhajjar and that the woman raised an alarm when she realised that they were not on the right route. He stopped the bike near an open ground, where Vidhan and Naveen were waiting in a car. They dragged her inside and tried to force themselves on her. When she resisted, one of them kept a knife on her throat and threatened to kill her. Neeraj and Naveen stabbed her repeatedly after she kept resisting and bit one of them. They dumped her body in a well on a Jhajjar field.
The police have handed over the case to Jhajjar police. They said that the body has been sent for autopsy and are awaiting the report.
