Spl Dharwad ZP general body meeting on Feb 5 over no confidence motion
TNN | Jan 26, 2019, 06:53 ISTDharwad: The Dharwad zilla panchayat has decided to call a special general body meeting to discuss the no confidence motion mooted against sitting ZP President Chaitra Shirur.
ZP officials said on Friday that ZP vice-president Shivanand Karigar has recommended to call for a special GB to discuss the no confidence motion and it would be held in ZP meeting hall in Dharwad at 11am on February 5.
The 22-member Dharwad zilla panchayat has 11 members from Congress and 10 from BJP while Karigar is an independent.
On January 7, the Congress members had asked Chaitra Shirur to call for a special general body meeting to pass a no confidence motion against her. However, Chaitra had neglected their demand.
As there was no response from ZP president to their demand even after 15 days, Congress members approached vice president Shivanand Karigar on January 22 requesting him to call for a special GB. Karigar has directed the ZP CEO to hold a special general body meeting on February 5.
It is to be seen if Congress will garner the needed support to oust Chaitra from her post or BJP will succeed in defeating the no confidence motion and retain control over the House.
