Intermediate student found dead in hostel

A row over lost mobile phone is suspected to be the cause

A 16-year-old Intermediate first-year student allegedly ended his life due to petty issue over smartphone, at a private Intermediate college hostel in PM Palem area in Visakhapatnam city on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as G Hemanth Naidu (16), a resident of Kothabyreddipalem village under Narsipatnam Police Station limits.

According to primary investigation conducted by PM Palem Inspector Surya Narayana, Hemanth Naidu had lost a mobile phone, which belonged to his roommate. The other student was reportedly pestering him to pay ₹12,000. Naidu informed the student that he would go to house for Sankranti holidays and return with money. But he was not able to do so due to financial issues. On Friday morning, he was found dead in his hostel room.

A case has been registered at PM Palem Police Station. Body has been sent to post-mortem. Investigation is on. Those who are in distress can contact helpline No. 100.
