Youngsters pledged to dedicate themselves to the promotion of agriculture at the ninth edition of the Bala Krishi Sasthra Congress organised by the Agri Friends Krishi Samskarika Vedi at the Government College for Women, Vazhuthacaud, here on Thursday.
Held in association with Neelakurinji, the nature club of the college, the day-long meet, saw nearly 300 young talents take part. The theme this year was ‘Krishi Keralam – Ente Swapnam’ (Agricultural Kerala – My Dream).
Minister for Forests K. Raju inaugurated the meet, in which students from 25 schools in the district took part. The best Bala Krishi Sasthra Pratibha award went to Sruthilaya S.R., a Class 12 student of Government Higher Secondary School for Girls, Cotton Hill, while the award for the best agriculture project went to the Hold Angels’ science club and eco club projects.
The Bala Krishi Sasthra overall award went to the Vithura students police team for their exhibition of 15 coconut trees that can be grown in compounds of houses and presentations on fish farming and preparation of fertilizer for organic farming. The tapioca festival included tapioca and seven types of curries, while the village market included veggies from the Nanniyode organic farming village. The college nature club students earned ₹20,000 from this.
Students, led by Swetha S. Prakash, a nature club member, pledged to dedicate themselves to promotion of agriculture as part of State’s rebuilding efforts.
Bala Krishi Sasthra Congress chairman D.R. Jose, convener Gangadevi, and secretary A.R. Baiju were present.
