‘Investments promised at GIM 2015 haven’t materialised’

DMK leader and Rajya Sabha member Kanimozhi on Thursday slammed the State government, accusing it of not having realised the investments promised during the previous edition of the Global Investors Meet in 2015.

She claimed that industries had not been set up and that employment had not been generated, contrary to the promises made during the previous summit.

She said Thoothukudi was a place where the working class could earn well and employment was available for the educated. “But today, farmers are not able to practice agriculture and educated youth are not getting jobs,” she said.

Ms. Kanimozhi said the prices of various essential commodities like gas cylinders and fertilisers had increased manifold.

She alleged that the State government was acting as per the directions of the Prime Minister. In the upcoming bypolls, she said that there is an opportunity to remove the present government.

She said that reservation, brought about as a result of the Dravidian movement, was being subverted.

Speaking about the Kodanad burglary and murder, she said that a lawyer was free to argue in any case. She said that the media was being threatened, and questioned how it could be said that the DMK was behind the case, while the lawyers were simply doing their job of securing bail of the accused.
