PM Modi’s visit to Madurai: Traffic diversions announced

MADUARI: The Madurai city police have announced traffic diversions in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Madurai on Sunday. Modi will lay the foundation stone of AIIMS and later will address a public meeting. Both functions will be held at Mandela Nagar.
The police said load vehicles from Madurai, Trichy, Sivaganga and Ramanathapuram, bound to Aruppukkottai, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari would not be allowed to use the usual route -- the Madurai Ring Road. To reach Kappalur, the vehicles have to take Dindigul-Madurai four-way via Othakadai, Kadachanendal, Alanganallur and Thanichiyam. The same route can be used for inverse movement. The diversion will be in place between 6am and 2pm.
Passenger buses from Madurai city bound for Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Tuticorin should take Chinthamani, Puliyur, Virathanoor, Nedungulam Road Junction and Valayankulam route. The buses from the southern districts bound for Madurai, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga should take the same route. The same route applies for light motor vehicles also. The diversion will be in place between 9am and 2pm.
City buses which are operated from Periyar Bus Terminal to Aviyur and Kariyapatti should reach Aruppukkottai Ring Road through Perungudi Thevar Statue and Saraswathi Narayana College.
