Hopeful of good show by party in the Lok Sabha polls

The Congress party should return to power for the sustenance of democracy and secularism in India, All India Congress Committee general secretary Mukul Wasnik has said.

Mr. Wasnik was inaugurating the general body meeting of the District Congress Committee at Rajeev Bhavan here on Friday. He accused the Sangh Parivar of dividing India on communal lines and said that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre should be voted out.

According to Mr. Wasnik, measures such as demonetisation and GST were implemented in undue haste, making life miserable for the common people. Unemployment and price rise had reached their peak and farmer suicides had become common under the NDA rule, he alleged. He said Priyanka Gandhi’s entry into active politics had strengthened the Congress and the party was sure to repeat its good performance in the recent Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections too.

The Sakthi project headed by AICC president Rahul Gandhi would be extended to the booth-level in all Parliament constituencies soon, he said.

In Kerala too, the Congress would give a sterling performance in the Lok Sabha elections, he said. Lauding the performance of sitting MP Anto Antony, the AICC general secretary also hinted at the possibility of the party fielding him in Pathanamthitta, this time too.
