LUCKNOW: Playing down the sudden emergence of Priyanka Gandhi as AICC general secretary set to play a pivotal role in the general elections in Uttar Pradesh, Union home minister and Lucknow MP Rajnath Singh said she would pose no challenge to the BJP.

Saying that it is his principle not to comment on any individual, he felt that Priyanka’s appearance on the state’s political horizon was an internal matter of the Congress, which he rubbished as a spent force.

Rajnath, who is camping here for three days, said he was confident of a repeat of BJP’s 2014 performance by reclaiming 71 seats this time too.

He dispelled rumours that he might shift to any other constituency. “I would definitely contest from Lucknow and dream of building and beautifying it as one of the top cities of the country,” said Rajnath.

“The image of prime minister Narendra Modi, with no charge of corruption against him and his government, was a major factor in BJP’s guaranteed return to the Centre,” said Rajnath.
