The Kerala High Court on Friday granted bail to two accused in a case relating to the murder of Abhimanyu, an SFI activist at Ernakulam Maharaja’s College.

Justice Sunil Thomas passed the order while allowing the bail pleas of Bilal Saji and Farooq Amani, fourth and fifth accused respectively in the case. The court, however, dismissed the bail plea of Riyaz Hussain, third accused in the case.

Opposing the bail pleas, the prosecution had contended that trial in the case would be affected and the police would not be able to arrest the absconding accused if these two were granted bail.

The prosecution case was that Abhimanyu, a degree student, was stabbed to death during a clash on the college campus on July 2, 2018. According to the prosecution, a 16-member gang of the Campus Front of India, Social Democratic Party of India and Popular Front of India unlawfully assembled with deadly weapons behind the college campus with the intention to do away with their rival student leaders of the SFI and attacked them with deadly weapons.
