Skilling the youth to work for industry is set to get a boost when Maruti Suzuki’s new model ITI gets up and running in August this year.
To be situated in Uncha Majra village in Haryana’s Gurugram district, close to its auto hub, it is in collaboration with the Japanese government and the State government.
The company hopes to train youth in “values of safety, quality, discipline, punctuality, Kaizen and other Japanese shop floor practices.”
However, this is not the first ITI set up with Japan.
In 2017, Maruti had started the first Japan-India Institute for Manufacturing (JIM) in Mehsana, Gujarat.
The Uncha Majra centre will be a model ITI with classrooms equipped with training tools and equipment, including a mini vehicle assembly line.
Industry professionals will be roped in to impart training in eight trades related to automobile manufacturing, maintenance and service.
This will add to the 110 government ITIs that the company supports across the country. The new initiative will hopefully help make more youth employable.
