For the residents of ward 123 at Raja Annamalaipuram, cleanliness of their streets takes precedence over everything else.
In an effort to keep their neighbourhood spic and span not just during daytime but also at night, the residents have roped in Ramky Enviro Engineers to start night conservancy.
For the past two weeks, staff of the conservancy operator service have been clearing the garbage from the streets every night.
The late night services are carried out between 11 p.m and 12 midnight in all the streets of the colony: Canal Bank Road, seven main roads and four cross roads. This is in addition to the regular garbage clearance service provided during the day between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. and between 12 noon and 1 p.m.
“Keeping our colony clean and tidy is of utmost importance to us. Also, we have made arrangements with the conservancy firm to sweep all the streets every Monday and Thursday. Conservancy service at night has made our morning walks quite pleasant,” says R. Chandrasekaran, president of the association.
RAPRA has also been collecting recyclable waste from all households in the neighbourhood every Sunday since January this year, he adds.
