CHENNAI: Police on Thursday arrested a woman in connection with the double murder case reported five months ago at Sengarai village near Uthukottai. The accused Vijayalakshmi, had orchestrated murder at the behest of her husband Suryah, a rowdy.

The police rounded up Vijayalakshmi, who remained absconding for the past five months, after she came to meet her husband Suryah, who was released on bail recently, at Tiruttani. She was remanded in Puzhal prison.

The incident occured in August last year, when two rowdies Vicky, 22, a resident of Vilambakkam , and his associate Sathya, 27, were killed. Police arrested 9 people soon after the murder.

During questioning it was revealed that the murder was planned by Suryah, who was in prison then, to avenge the death of his brother Udhayakumar who was killed by the rowdies.

Udhayakumar was killed after Vicky and Sathya chased him into a lake near Maraimalai Nagar. The duo, who were into drug peddling business, were not in good terms Suryah.

Suryah who developed friendship with another rowdy, Anbu in prison, informed him about his brother’s death. As the killers were close associates to Anbu, he promised Suryah to eliminate the duo. Suryah and Anbu hatched a plan to execute the duo. As per the plan, Vijayalakshmi engaged hirelings to murder Vicky and Sathya.

Following the murder, six people surrendered before a magistrate court in Saidapet. After inquiries, police arrested three more people.

Suryah and Anbu who were already serving prison time were also named suspects.
