Jared Kushner's Top Security Clearance Was Rejected, But Overruled By Trump Official

President Trump’s son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner was granted top secret security clearance despite his application being rejected, reports NBC News.????Sources told NBC that Kushner’s application for top secret clearance was rejected by 2 White House security specialists after being flagged during the FBI background check.????The FBI raised concerns about Kushner’s foreign contacts and travels as well as meetings he attended during the 2016 presidential campaign.????Carl Kline, the director of the personnel security office in the Executive Office of the President, overruled the rejection and granted Trump’s son-in-law top secret-level access.????NBC News reports this was one of at least 30 cases where Kline overruled the recommendations of security experts and granted clearance for Trump administration officials.

????Sources say this is an unusual amount of activity.

Only one case of a security recommendation being overruled took place in the 3 years prior to Kline’s arrival in May of 2017.????Kushner’s security clearance was downgraded from top secret to secret in February of 2018.????The House Oversight and Reform Committee recently announced that it would be looking into the Trump Administration’s handling of security clearances.
