In fact, the company has just revealed that the poet will become their newest Tail Fin Hero – and he’s the first Scotsman to make the list.

An image of Robert will grace the tail fin of one of the airline’s Norwegian Boeing 787 Dreamliners , although it won’t be on Burns Night itself, but rather on aircraft taking to the skies later this spring.

Celebrating its ever-growing success in the UK, Norwegian currently has a series of UK tail fin heroes planned; Robert is the sixth in an already stellar line-up which includes Freddie Mercury, Bobby Moore, Roald Dahl, Jane Austen, Amy Johnson and Sir Freddie Laker.

When picking its tail fin heroes, the company explained that it looks for “personalities who symbolise the spirit of Norwegian by pushing boundaries, challenging the norm and inspiring others”.

There’s no denying that Robert Burns has left quite the legacy behind, most notably with his poem ‘Auld Lang Syne’ which is sung around the UK when the clock strikes midnight on New Year’s Eve.

Norwegian already offers transatlantic flights from Scotland , with direct routes to the US east coast to smaller airports including Stewart International and Providence International, which offer transport links to New York City and Boston.
