MIG Club may have to pay Rs 53 cr over school

MIG Club

Lease agreement stated that the club will construct a school on the land

During the authority meeting of Maharashtra Housing And Area Development Authority (MHADA) on Thursday, a proposal was made to make MIG club located at Kalanagar pay Rs 53.65 crore. Milind Mhaiskar, the Vice President of MHADA, confirmed that this proposal was approved.

This is because the lease agreement between MHADA and MIG Club, stated that the club will construct a school and hand over it to MHADA which, will then be given to an organisation or institution to run it. However, this clause wasn't allegedly fulfilled by the club and now this money is being asked from MIG club to construct the school.

When contacted MIG Club chairman, Sanjeev Patki, he said, "We haven't received any notice or intimation from MHADA. Also, the school project will be done as per the law."

The land is situated next to the office building, located in Kalanagar, Bandra East. In the year 2004, the lease agreement between the two parties was signed. As per the section 3 (B) of the agreement, the club had to construct a school building and hand it over to MHADA.

When contacted Milind Mhaiskar, Vice president and Chief Executive officer of MHADA, asking him about the approval during the authority meeting for he replied in affirmative. Area of said land is 3560 square meter, MHADA calculated the cost on the basis of the construction cost at its other projects which comes to Rs 3,500 and thus the proposal was to ask the club to pay Rs 53.65 crore which will be required for the construction of the building.

A senior officer from MHADA said that Navjivan Education trust had requested the Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and MHADA to handover them the land for the school. All these points are mentioned in the authority meeting agenda, a copy of which is available with DNA.
