Drunk man thrown into well, dies

KANPUR: A 38-year-old man, who was creating ruckus after consuming liquor in Girsi village of Ghatampur area on Wednesday night, was allegedly beaten and thrown into a well by a group of villagers. The police later rescued him and sent him to a hospital where he died during treatment on Thursday.


The police have lodged an FIR against four people and arrested three of them. Chotey Lal Sankhwar, his two sons Dev and Pradeep have been arrested while the fourth accused Lalaram is absconding.


Police said the deceased was identified as Lallan Singh. Investigation revealed that Lallan, who was in a drunken state, had entered into a scuffle with his neighbour Chotey Lal Sankhwar, his two sons Dev and Pradeep and one other local person.


They beat him and dumped him in the village well, the police said.
