PUNE: The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) has set up a replica of the Raj Ghat, a memorial in New Delhi dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, at the Law College Road entrance in view of Republic Day, as well as Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary that will be observed throughout the year.
The installation features a replica of the spot where Gandhi’s mortal remains were cremated on January 31, 1948. The words ‘Hey Ram’ are inscribed on the replica in the Devanagari script.
To commemorate Gandhi’s life, the FTII had created a replica of the Sabarmati Ashram, to mark Independence Day in 2018.
A release by the FTII director Bhupendra Kainthola said the replica will be on public display till February 28.
New classrooms named after alumni
The FTII has named classrooms at their new classroom theatre (CRT) and the complex after famous alumni and faculty members, a month after the complex was inaugurated by alumnus and filmmaker Sriram Raghavan. Kainthola stated that the CRT complex will be known as the Satish Bahadur CRT. Bahadur was a professor of film appreciation at FTII for 20 years. The classrooms have been named after Renu Saluja, an award-winning film editor, the 1967-batch cinematography student KK Mahajan, filmmaker Mani Kaul, and SB Anand, the former head of the sound department.
