Forest Department officials on Friday morning tranquilised Chinnathambi, an elephant that has been raiding crops and houses in Thadagam Valley.

The first dart was shot between 5.30 am and 6 am. However, it missed the male wild elephant and the animal was tranquilised in the second attempt.

Just about a month ago, the department officials had translocated Vinayagan, another wild elephant that was raiding crops and houses in the same area.

Farmers had been demanding capture and translocation of both the elephants. Two kumkis, Mudumalai and Khaleem, were moved to Coimbatore on Wednesday evening for the operation. Two more kumkis were already stationed at Thadagam Valley.
