Looking after your fruit trees

Learn all about the summer care of fruit trees in a workshop being run next month by urban farmer Justin Calverley. Pruning, training (including espaliers) and managing common pests and diseases will be covered. The workshop, organised by Open Gardens Victoria in partnership with 3000acres, runs from 1pm to 2.30pm on Sunday, February 3, at Reservoir Food Forest and Orchard in Reservoir, $30.

LECTURE

Tree-planting, asphalt removal, footpath-widening and the creation of new open green spaces will all be discussed in a public lecture next month about Melbourne's changing urban landscape. Professor Rob Adams, from the City of Melbourne, will detail the ways in which the city's landscape has changed over the past 35 years, and how it will continue to evolve to accommodate an increasing population and climate change. The talk is on Thursday, February 21, 6pm for 6.30pm, Mueller Hall, National Herbarium, $25/$20 Friends of the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne. KIM MORRIS

Queensland-based horticulturalist and landscape designer Kim Morris, who was a past president of the Australian Institute of Horticulture, has died from cancer. Morris, who once ran a bougainvillea nursery in Cairns, was a teacher, writer, editor and radio presenter who supported a wide array of national horticultural groups. Morris died on January 9.
