Another mistake in marklist by Promarc, NU still mum

Nagpur: Even as Nagpur University (NU) refuses to take any action against private agency Promarc despite promising the Senate last year, another mistake in marksheets surfaced on Thursday. A BCCA student has received an almost blank scorecard for the winter exam result.
TOI randomly asked a couple of colleges if their students faced similar problems and they said printing issues have become common in exam work.
The BCCA student’s college referred the matter to NU’s exam section.
Pro vice-chancellor Pramod Yeole said it must be printer’s problem and will be resolved when the exam section receives the complaint from the college.
Asked about the action university would take, Yeole said unless the complaint is received, the administration can’t decide what can be done. “The marksheets work is divided between university and Promarc. For some postgraduate courses, the university does it while the agency is assigned some undergraduate courses,” he said.
Director of examinations and evaluation Niraj Khaty didn’t answer to TOI’s calls and messages.
Promarc and NU exam section have been blaming the colleges for blunders in exam documents like hall tickets, invigilation sheets and other student data.
In the last two years, TOI has been reporting about hall tickets without photos or of those with someone else’s picture. The latest blunder raises eyebrows on the processing of marksheets whose quality has been questioned by the senate members.
For the first time since roping in the private agency in 2016, NU had agreed to penalize Promarc for errors in exam works, especially those related to students’ data. The issue of glaring flaws in hall tickets, exam forms and marklists was raised during the Senate meeting in October last year.
On January 24, TOI had highlighted how the NU has been maintaining complete secrecy with Promarc in the aftermath of marks scam exposed in Gondwana University.
In previous winter and summer exams, TOI had reported how students received hall tickets without photo, wrong ones, gender mismatch etc.
Senate member Manmohan Bajpai had posed a volley of questions to the administration regarding the contract and alleged arbitrary manner in which extension was awarded to Promarc.
Bajpai had received overwhelming support from various quarters including stalwarts RG Bhoyar, Baban Taywade and newly elected members Vishnu Changde, Pravin Udapure, Omprakash Chimmankar, Keshav Mendhe, Prashant Dekate and Shilawat Meshram.
Bajpai claimed that the agency had no prior experience in exam work while the experience certificate was issued to it by the NU itself.
Soon after this, several colleges had reported problems in hall tickets but Promarc has gone scot-free.
