12 train passengers robbed at gunpoint near Rohtak station

CHANDIGARH/ROHTAK: Twelve passengers were robbed at gunpoint in moving Ajmer-Chandigarh Garib Rath Express near Makdoli village in Rohtak in the early hours on Wednesday.
The crime was carried out in a reserved coach by eight to 10 people who carried country-made pistols and sharp-edged weapons. The victims, who lost Rs 91,000 in cash and jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh, included a judicial officer from Rajasthan.
In his complaint, travelling ticket examiner (TTE) Mithu Sharma said the crime took place at 3.12 am a few minutes after the train left Rohtak station. The miscreants entered the coach number 9 and shut the doors from inside. They threatened passengers at gunpoint and looted their jewellery and cash.
Raj Kumar, station house officer (SHO) at GRP Rohtak, said the miscreants then pulled the chain in the coach and escaped under the cover of darkness.
The victims lodged a complaint at Chandigarh after alighting from the train.
“The robbers might have boarded the train either at Bhiwani or Rohtak,” the tation house officer said.
Police said out of 12 passengers, four were from Ambala and eight belonged to Chandigarh.
Asked about the presence of GRP personnel in the train, the GRP SHO said cops were present but the accused had fled before police came to know about the incident.
Rohtak GRP have started the probe to arrest the accused.
Naresh Chand, SHO, GRP Chandigarh, said as the crime took place near Rohtak, they registered a zero FIR in Chandigarh on the basis of the TTE’s complaint.
A case under Sections 395, 341 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 25 of the Arms Act and 141/146 of the Railway Act.
