HYDERABAD: A man who had allegedly murdered his pregnant wife on Monday night was arrested by Marredpally police on Wednesday. The incident came to light on Wednesday as the man, after smothering his wife to death, pretended that she was missing.
Sunny, an alcoholic, used to beat his wife Satyavathi, a maid, and forcefully take away her earnings. On Monday night, an argument broke out between the two after Satyavathi complained to Sunny over not sharing his earnings with her and their poor financial condition. “Sunny, who was drunk, beat Satyavathi and smothered her to death. He then left the house with the body inside and locked it. On Monday and Tuesday, he moved around in various areas like Malkajgiri before returning to his house on Tuesday evening,” Marredpally Inspector A Srinivasulu said.
At 12 am on Wednesday, Sunny called up his father Surender and said that he had assaulted Satyavathi. Surender then informed Satyavathi’s father about the argument between the couple. When they both reached Valmiki Nagar, they found the house locked. Suspecting that Satyavathi might be inside the house, they approached the police, who opened the door forcefully and found Satyavathi’s decomposed body. On Wednesday, police traced Sunny and arrested him under IPC Sections 302 (murder) and 498a (domestic violence).
